Rising pollution levels have become cause of concern for not just leaders across the world but the issue has started troubling leaders in India as well. While Delhi is trying to work out ways to bring down the pollution level, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar directed officials to impose a ban on 15 year old diesel vehicles.
The decision was taken during a review meeting of forest and environment department in Patna. Mr Kumar wants the environment department to launch a statewide awareness drive to educate people, drivers and vehicle owners in particular about the growing pollution level in the air.
The major cause of concern the officials said is the burning of plastic and other solid waste materials “strict measures will be taken to ban plastic burning and we will also keep strict vigil on vehicles responsible for increasing pollution level including noise pollution”. Sources said, Mr Kumar during the meeting also asked the officials to keep a check on the “unnecessary blaring of horns and sirens in cities of the state particularly in Patna”. While addressing a revi-ew meeting he also directed the officials to “launch crackdown against the brick and sand mafia”. CM Kumar said: State pollution control board must workout ways to nab brick mafias and initiate appropriate action against them.
