New Indian envoy to Pakistan Gautam Bambawale arrived here on Tuesday with a message of peace and friendship.

On his arrival in Lahore through the Wagah Border, the Indian high commissioner said he will work towards improvement in Indo-Pak relations. He said he will play role of a “bridge” between the two countries to promote peace and friendship.

Earlier, before his departure from New Delhi, Mr Bambawale said he would make all efforts to strengthen the relations between the Asian neighbours.

“My work is that of an ambassador of India to Pakistan. We want to improve the relationship between Indian and Pakistan. We want to strengthen our relationship between Indian and Pakistan and that will be my effort while I am posted there,” he. “The instruction given to me was to reach Pakistan at the earliest. So, I am going to cross over and reach there. The two governments are in touch with each other, we will have to wait and see what would be the next step,” he added when asked about the foreign secretary-level talks.
