The police was sceptical about the veracity of the video clip, surfaced recently, showing the rebels conducting commando–style training to shoot down helicopters.

Preliminary probe by police into the video clip has indicated that the whole show might have been stage-managed by the ultras to create a sensation not only to boost the sagging morale of their cadres caused by the sudden spurt in surrender of Naxals in Chhattisgarh but also to demoralise the security forces battling the Left-wing insurgency in the conflict zone.

“It is very well known in the security establishment that Maoists were trying to target the copters deployed in Bastar to evacuate jawans injured in Naxal attacks and reach rations to camps of security personnel in remote area in the region. They have hit the copters in Bastar thrice in the past. Hence, the purpose of releasing the video clip at this juncture showing the copter shooting practice by the rebels appears suspicious,” a senior police officer told this newspaper here on Sunday.
