: In major scandal, two of Morroco’s most popular religious leaders and politicians, who preached about the importance of chastity and virtue, were shunted out by their party after they were allegedly caught having sex in a car along the beach.

According to reports, Morocco’s Unity and Reform Movement (MUR), suspended

Moulay Omar Benhammad, 63, and Fatima Nejjar, 62, after the pair were found in a sexual position in a car.

Both the leaders held the position of vice presidents in the party.

Benhammad who is married and fathers seven children was charged with attempted corruption, while Nejjar, who is a widow and has six children, has been charged with complicity to adultery.

The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday at a beach in the port city of Mohammedia.

The couple have currently been released from custody and are due to appear in court on September 1.

Following the incident, Benhammad claimed that he live-in with Nejjar in a common-law marriage, and that his wife does not want to take up adultery charges against him.

Videos of Nejjar advising female students not to give in to ‘temptation and vice’ have been widely shared on social media following the incident.

While many in the outfit have decried the incident as a conspiracy to trap the leaders, the party issued an official statement saying that the couple have been ‘suspended from all structures of the movement’, claiming that the incident lead to ‘violation of the principles of the movement, its orientation and its values.’

MUR is a religious movement a part of the major political party the Justice Development Party (PJD).
