Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday launched an all-encompassing attack on the Modi government for its failures on national and international issues, from job creation and inflation to protecting dalits, tribals and minorities, saying this government “is anchored in slick marketing events, in glib marketing slogans and in repackaging”, but remained silent on the Goods and Services Tax.

Addressing a Congress Parliamentary Party general body meeting, Mrs Gandhi reiterated the Congress’ stand on these issues but did not touch on the GST.

Congress leaders in the Rajya Sabha feel the GST Bill will find passage in the current session.

The Congress chief asked her party MPs to be “active, to be aggressive and hold the government and ministers to their words and actions (in Parliament)”.

Mrs Gandhi said, “We are presented with a government that is anchored in slick marketing events, in glib marketing slogans, in repackaging, in embellishment and exaggeration,” adding, “Friends, deception is not new to this ruling party (BJP). They are skilled at ignoring facts, at propagating false claims and orchestrating unsubstantiated charges against the Opposition, especially the Congress party.”
