The BSP has extended “full support” to the ongoing Jat agitation in Haryana. In a statement issued here on Sunday, BSP president Mayawati said that Jats should be immediately given reservation.
She flayed the police force for its crackdown on protesters and said that certain political parties were trying to quash the protests by using the police as a tool. She blamed the Congress and the BJP for betraying the Jat community by promising reservation and then backing out on the issue. “Earlier, when the Congress was in power in Haryana it did not do justice to the Jats and now when the BJP is in power, it is behaving like the previous government. The Jats are getting a raw deal which has compelled them to resort to agitation,” she said. She also appealed to the Jat community to continue their agitation in a disciplined and peaceful manner so that they get increased support from others.
Justifying the Jat demand for reservation, Ms Mayawati said that the same should be given in education and jobs without further delay.
