Man poses as dig, asks for money from cops

An unknown caller posed as DIG of Meerut zone and called up several policemen and asked them to transfer money in a bank account for his brother’s treatment.

An unknown caller posed as DIG of Meerut zone and called up several policemen and asked them to transfer money in a bank account for his brother’s treatment. Some of the police personnel, including the circle officer (traffic) and superintendent of police (crime), received a call from an unknown number on Saturday and the caller identified himself as DIG (Meerut) K. Satyanarayan. The caller gave his account number asking the police officials to transfer money to his account for his brother’s treatment. He said that this was an emergency situation and hence he needed the money. The police officials became suspicious and called up the DIG to check the authenticity of the claim who was taken aback by the incident. A probe was immediately ordered by the DIG. According to the preliminary investigations, the mobile number from which calls were made has been traced to Bihar. The police has registered cases of fraud in various police stations against the anonymous caller and further investigations are on.
