A suspected hardcore Naxal allegedly involved in the killing of around 60 cops has decided to desert the red cadre after he was “forcibly” separated from his lady love, a woman rebel, by his seniors.
Nandu, alias Korsa Budharam (24), who was deputy commander of military company 2 of the Maoists, walked around 30 km from Pidia jungle in Chhattisgarh’s south Bastar district of Dantewada to surrender before superintendent of police (SP) Kamal Lochan Kashyap on Friday.
“I fell in love with a woman Naxal, Lenkam Sunny. Both of us wanted to marry. But my seniors, Rakesh and Venkatesh, who were opposed to our marriage, had planned to kill me by producing me as a rape accused in a kangaroo court. I got a wind of it and fled,” Mr Kashyap quoted the rebel as saying.
According to the SP, the Naxal, active in the West Bastar division of Maoists, carried a bounty of Rs 8 lakh on his head. Korsa joined the Naxal cadre in 2007 when he was barely 16.
He was allegedly involved in the killing of six jawans at Madkapal, six cops in Minoppa, one policeman at Todka, nine troopers in Bhadrakali and three cops in Nukpal in south Bastar during the period. He was also allegedly involved in the Maoist ambush on the Congress convoy at Jiram Ghati in Bastar district on May 25, 2013 in which 32 people, including 27 Congressmen, were massacred.
A bullet he had received during the encounter with security forces at Dugali in Dantewada district recently is still stuck in his body.
In a separate incident, two rebels were killed in an encounter with security forces in Kutur forest in south Bastar district of Narayanpur on Friday morning.
