Thousands of RJD workers marched through Patna on Sunday as part of a protest against the Prime Minister Narendra Modi government‘s failed promises to bring back the black money stashed away in foreign banks and the Land Acquisition Bill.
RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, who led this march, accused the Central government for trying to attack the rights of people by imposing such laws just to make handful of corporate houses happy so that they could keep helping the saffron party during elections.
“Narendra Modi and his team backstabbed the people of this country, its voters by failing to bring back black money as promised and now they are trying to backstab the farmers by forcibly imposing a law which we will never allow. We have launched this battle and it will continue till the end,” Mr Yadav said while leading the march to Raj Bhavan.
Vowing to wage war against the NDA government at the Centre, Mr Yadav submitted a memorandum to the governor demanding reversal of the bill. The sources in the RJD revealed that the party mentioned in its memorandum how Mr Modi had failed to fulfil his promises to bring back the black money even nine months after forming the government.
Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar had earlier on Saturday observed a 24-hour-long fast to protest against the Land Acquisition Bill at his party’s headquarters in Patna. The two leaders are seeking to corner the Modi-led NDA government on the Land Acquisition Bill amendments, ahead of the Assembly elections in Bihar later this year.
Meanwhile, the leaders of the newly-formed political front of Jitan Ram Manjhi, the Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM), said some political parties are trying to gain public sympathy by presenting a wrong picture of the Land Acquisition Bill.
Criticising the JD(U) and the RJD’s protest, the HAM leaders further said the bill was prepared keeping the problems of the farmers in mind and with the implementation of this bill, the farmers will be able to get adequate compensation.
