Actor-turned-social activist Juhi Chawla, who is leading the anti-mobile tower campaign in the Mumbai, met state health secretary, Dr Jayant Kumar Banthia, on Monday. The actress met the chief secretary for more definite regulations and guidelines for installation of mobile towers in the city, especially on rooftops in housing societies and school buildings. Principal secretary R.A. Rajeev and principal secretary urban development Manukumar Srivastava also participated in the meeting. Ms Chawla told the top bureaucrats that the municipal corporation should not just adopt stricter guidelines for installation of mobile towers, but also ensure that the emission of radiation levels is set at further lower levels. It was unanimously decided that a committee comprising experts from Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH), Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) and various people’s representatives groups will be formed by the end of October, which will come together to deliberate and find a workable and amicable solution. Though the meeting essentially concerned mobile towers, Dr Banthia also requested the actress to take up the cause of malnutrition in the state.
