: A senior police officer was critically injured in a sneak militant attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s southern Anantnag district on Thursday.

Police sources said that unidentified gunmen targeted the vehicle of Sub-District Police Officer (SDPO) of Bijhebara, Irshad Hussain, with rifle-fire along the Srinagar-Jammu highway. The officer’s personal security officer also sustained injuries in the attack.

They have been admitted to 92-Base Army Hospital at Srinagar. “The condition of the SDPO is very critical,” sources said.

None of the militant outfits active in Kashmir has owned responsibility for the attack so far.
