In a move that could lead to another strain on the relations between the Akhilesh government and the Raj Bhavan, Uttar Pradesh governor Ram Naik has sent a letter to chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, asking for an action taken report on the recommendations made by the UP lokayukta on various cases of corruption.
The letter is bound to unsettle the state government that has put most of the recommendation made by the lokayukta in the cold storage
The governor, in his letter, said the CM’s observations and the explanatory memorandum from the chief secretary should accompany the reply.
The UP lokayukta sent 52 reports on recommendation of action in various cases, and the governor was informed of action taken in only two cases, say sources.
The remaining 50 reports were neither tabled in the state legislature nor was there any visible action taken on them.
The cases are related to corruption charges against former Bahujan Samaj Party ministers. The BJP has also accused the government of shielding the BSP leaders. The governor pointed out that the delay in taking action against corrupt public representatives and public servants amounts to the violation of the Lokayukta Act.
