On a day when Congrss vice-president Rahul Gandhi held fast with students in Hyderabad, three Union ministers slammed him for seeking to politically exploit the issue of the suicide by dalit research scholar Rohith Vemula and accused Mr Gandhi of shedding “crocodile tears” over the issue.
Citing nine cases of dalit student suicides on the campus of Hyderabad university during the UPA regime, Union minister for parliamentary affairs M. Venkaiah Naidu asked Mr Gandhi why he never bother to enquire about those suicides.
Further, he asked the Opposition parties to wait for the report of the judicial commission probe ordered by the Centre into the suicide.
