Hyderabad: DRI seizes 1161 kg ganja from truck, one held

Hyderabad: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized ganja weighing over 1100 kgs from a lorry in Visakhapatnam on Saturday and arrested one person, the agency said on Sunday.

The value of the seized contraband in the "grey market" is over Rs 1 crore.

Officers of the DRI's Regional Unit at Vizag intercepted the lorry on highway near Sheelanagar area in the city and found nearly 1161 kgs of ganja, which was concealed under gravel in the vehicle.

"The lorry was carrying the contraband from the Visakhapatnam agency area to an unidentified destination via highway. The narcotic drug was found packed in 386 packages, each weighing around 3 Kg, and was hidden under a tarpaulin covered by gravel," stated a release issued by the DRI's Hyderabad Zonal Unit on Sunday.

It said that one person has been arrested and a search is on to trace others involved in the procurement and transfer of the contraband.
