Two dead, IndiGo first-officer seriously injured in Gurgaon hit-and-run

New Delhi: Two people died while a 30-year-old IndiGo first-officer has suffered serious injuries after their cab got hit by a Scorpio.

The incident took place at about 5.30 am on Sunday near DLF Phase 1 in Gurgaon while the IndiGo officer Suvarna Sripalli Gayatri was travelling to Delhi airport from her home in Gurgaon's Sector 61.

Police said that the cab, a Swift DZire was hit by a Scorpio which came from the opposite direction and the collision was so strong that despite the opening of both vehicles' airbags, the cab driver, identified as Vinod Yadav, and the security guard accompanying the officer died on the spot. They also said the Scorpio driver fled the spot and is absconding. 

The officer, who was travelling by cab to the airport for her flight duties on Sunday morning, was immediately shifted to Gurgaon's Medanta hospital and is believed to be in a critical condition.

"The airline staff are present at the hospital and in contact with the family of the injured staff member," the IndiGo said in a statement.

The accident is being investigated by the police, who revealed that the Scorpio has a Delhi registration under the name of Pradeep Kumar and that there was a fake sticker of Lok Sabha MP on it.
