Chhattisgarh couple carry dead baby in bag

Yellam Ramesh’s wife Sashikala had delivered a stillborn baby at a government hospital at Jagdalpur.

The kin of the couple said that they were told by the hospital staff to carry the dead child’s body in a bag and dispose it of “anywhere they like”.

Bhopal: In yet another shocking incident, a tribal couple in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar district had to carry their child’s body for 12 hours, until an ambulance reached there and took the body to the couple’s village.

Yellam Ramesh’s wife Sashikala had delivered a stillborn baby at a government hospital at Jagdalpur, district headquarters of Bastar, on Wednesday.

The kin of the couple said that they were told by the hospital staff to carry the dead child’s body in a bag and dispose it of “anywhere they like”.

“The saff of the hospital discharged Sashikala after she delivered a stillborn child. One of the employees told them to carry the body in a bag and dispose it of wherever they like”, a kin of the couple, who accompanied them, told Asian Age.

The kin said after the couple sought help from the local administration, the authorities from Red Cross arranged the ambulance and took the body to the couple’s native village of Ipenta in Bijapur district

“The Red Cross people arranged an ambulance and body was taken to their village”, a relative of the couple said.
