The Congress on Friday demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should apologise for “trampling” democracy in Uttarakhand in the wake of the landmark judgment of the Supreme Court.
“Today was a landmark victory for constitutional democracy by the Supreme Court on Uttarakhand issue. The Prime Minister must apologise to the people of Uttarakhand and India. He must vow never to try to topple an elected state government,” the party’s chief spokesman Randeep Surjewala said.
Insisting that the Congress’ stand that the floor test is the only way to test the mandate of the people was vindicated, Mr Surjewala told reporters that the Prime Minister must step down from his “pedestal of arrogance and face the truth”.
Claiming that the nine rebel MLAs were still debarred, he said the “unprecedented” order of the top court is a resounding defeat of those who “trampled democracy and held people ransom by misusing money and muscle power”.
Asked about CBI summons to former chief minister Harish Rawat in the sting operation case, he said to go into the “fake” sting operation would be a “great disservice” to the order of the Supreme Court.
He said summoning Mr Rawat in such a situation would mean that CBI/ED are now being used to carry out the BJP’s political vendetta.
Mr Surjewala claimed that the Congress would prove its “full majority” in the Uttarakhand Assembly on May 10 when the Supreme Court has ordered a floor test in the House.
Replying to a question on Mr Modi’s educational qualifications, Mr Surjewala said it is indeed unfortunate that Prime Minister’s educational qualifications is under a serious cloud and suspicion permitting everybody to raise doubts on the authenticity or veracity of the educational qualifications of the nation’s Prime Minister who has chosen to maintain a complete studied silence.
Gujarat University, which has released his post graduation degree, says it does not have his graduation degree.
He may be the only student in the country who got admission into post-graduation without showing the mark sheet and degree for graduation. That itself raises further doubts, he said.
“While Delhi University refuses to answer any questions on the PM’s graduation degree, the education ministry refuses to answer any questions on the PMs degrees. The Prime Minister’s Office refuses to answer any questions on it Mr Modi refuses to answer any questions on his own educational qualifications and degrees. Then who will answer ” he asked.
