Top leaders of the Uttar Pradesh Congress will hit the streets in 66 districts from August 21 to October 9 after realising that this could be the correct strategy to connect with the people than holding public meetings and rallies ahead of the crucial state Assembly polls.

They will be on the road for nearly 48 days to convince the people to give a chance to the “grand old party” after experiencing the rule of BJP, Samajwadi Party and BSP in the last 27 years in the state and divided it on communal and caste lines.

While it is unclear whether the party vice-president Rahul Gandhi or Priyanka Gandhi will take part in the “yatras”, AICC general secretary in-charge of the state Ghulam Nabi will join in some of the cavalcades. However, PCC president Raj Babbar, CM candidate Sheila Dikshit, campaign committee chief Dr Sanjay Sinh and coordination committee chairman Pramod Tiwari will run the show.

The Congress has planned two yatras from August 21 to criss-cross various parts of UP to bring the party in reckoning after 27 long years.

Mr Azad said here that while one cavalcade of senior leaders would traverse 33 districts, another would pass through 33 other districts in the politically most crucial state.
