A family of four in a Chhattisgarh village tried twice, within a span of five minutes, to end their lives just to be sure that they all die and escape the miseries caused by penury.

The incident took place in the village of Chhuri under Katghora block in Korba district late on Sunday night.

According to the police, Saroj Agrawal (50), widowed ten years ago and long afflicted with paralysis, had been dealing with serious financial crisis to run the family.

The entire family decided to end their lives late on Sunday night by consuming poison.

Later, the three siblings jumped into the well near their home to be sure that they do not survive. Her two daughters, Rani (24) and Rashmi (22), died while she and her son, Shubham (20), are battling for their lives.

On hearing their cries, neighbours fished the siblings out of the well and rushed them, along with Saroj, to the hospital where doctors declared the sisters brought dead.
