The Chhattisgarh Congress on Thursday submitted a report on the cash-for-seat tape expose, suggesting roles played by former chief minister Ajit Jogi and his MLA son Amit in fixing the Antagarh bypoll of 2014, to party chief Sonia Gandhi.
AICC general secretary in charge of Chhattisgarh B.K. Hariprasad handed over the report along with a reported chargesheet prepared by the Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CPCC) against the senior Jogi to the Congress president in New Delhi, a senior party leader told this newspaper here.
Party sources hinted that the chargesheet detailed the functioning of the senior Jogi in the past one decade that allegedly proved to be detrimental to the interests of the party in Chhattisgarh.
“The report has squarely blamed the Jogis for the withdrawal of the Congress candidate in the byelection in the dying hours to deny the party the chance to field an alternative nominee, thus giving the ruling BJP’s candidate a walkover in the election,” a Congress leader disclosed.
Mr Hariprasad also submitted the CPCC’s proposal to Mrs Gandhi to expel the senior Jogi, a member of the Congress Working Committee, from the party for his alleged role in poll-fixing.
