CBI files chargesheet on Chhota Rajan

The CBI on Tuesday filed its first chargesheet against Chhota Rajan and three former officials of the passport office (Bengaluru) for allegedly issuing a fake travel document to the deported gangster which he used to escape to Australia.
Talking to reporters here, CBI press information officer R.K. Gaur confirmed that the chargesheet has been filed in the special court, Patiala House, which has taken cognisance of it.
Sources in the agency said Rajendra Sadashiv Nikalje, alias Chhota Rajan, and three passport officials — Jay Shree Rahate, Deepak Natvarlal Shah and Lalitha Layamon — who were posted at the Bengaluru passport office and are now retired, have been made accused in the CBI’s probe report. The agency has charged them with criminal conspiracy, cheating and forgery under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act in the chargesheet, they added. The CBI had registered a case against Rajan and unknown public servants.
