The CBI on Wednesday filed chargesheet against prime suspect Uday Swaroop in the alleged rape and murder of a research scholar in Dayalbagh Educational Institute (Agra) two years ago.

CBI spokesperson R.K. Gaur said the chargesheet has been filed in the court of additional sessions judge at Agra.

He said charges under IPC sections 302 (murder), 376 (rape) and 201 (destruction of evidence) have been filed against Uday Swaroop, who was a student in the same institution.

Swaroop’s alleged friend, however, has been left out of the CBI chargesheet even as the local police had booked both of them in their chargesheet.

The Agra police had said that while Swaroop had killed the girl, his accomplice had helped him destroy all the evidence of the crime.
