Bijnor

: A woman from Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, who brutally beat up her mother-in-law, was arrested on Tuesday after a shocking video of the incident went viral on social media.

In the hair-raising video, the woman identified as Sangeeta Jain, is seen trying to strangle her mother-in-law with a piece of cloth. She violently tries to choke the elderly woman who sits helplessly on the bed, wrapped in a blanket. Sangeeta then can be seen dashing to another room and emerging with a stone in her hand with which she starts hitting her mother-in-law with unrestrained rage.

It was Sangeeta’s husband Sandeep Jain, who decided to put a CCTV camera in the room to expose the abuse she had been inflicting on his mother.

\"This has been happening for quite some time now. She used to assault and abuse my parents very often. I complained about her but no one used to listen to me. Then after waiting for two years, I installed a CCTV camera expecting that she will fix her ways, but she didn't. That day she crossed all the limits. I installed the camera to unmask her since the law is on the woman's side in such cases,\" said Sandip.

The police registered a case under section 307 (attempt to murder) under the IPC and have launched an investigation in the matter.

The victim, who is reportedly 70 years old, recalled the horror she faced, “My daughter in-law attacked me brutally. That day she came from the kitchen and started slapping me. She almost strangled me to death. She even hit my head with a brick. I don't know why she did this. I never interfere in anything”.

Activist Kundan Srivastava had shared the video on his Facebook page and appealed to Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav to take strict action against the Sangeeta.

In the post, Srivastava described Sangeeta as a \"cruel woman\" who filed false dowry harassment and marital rape cases against Sandeep.
