BJP MP Kirti Azad’s belligerence on the DDCA issue has triggered feverish speculation on whether or not the BJP will take action against him. Opposition parties, including the AAP and Congress, have been demanding Union finance minister Arun Jaitley’s resignation over alleged financial irregularities in the DDCA during his tenure.

Demanding action against Mr Azad, senior leader and former deputy chief minister of Bihar Sushil Kumar Modi on Tuesday tweeted: “The BJP should take disciplinary action against Kirti Azad and some other MPs for embarrassing the party and playing in the hands of the Opposition.” A section within the BJP wants action against Mr Azad.

However, during the BJP parliamentary party meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday morning, there was no mention of charges made by the Darbhanga MP over the DDCA issue or his accusations against Mr Jaitley even though the PM attacked the Congress for levelling allegations against the Union finance minister.

Mr Kirti Azad, meanwhile, tweeted that his Twitter account was hacked after a tweet from his handle had dared Mr Jaitley to sue him too and had used a derogatory word. Mr Jaitley has filed a defamation suit against Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and some AAP leaders.

On Sunday, Mr Azad had held a press conference and alleged massive corruption in the DDCA and also released a video purportedly showing that some companies who were paid by the DDCA for renovation works at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium do not exist in the addresses mentioned in the bills. He, however, did not name Mr Jaitley during the press conference.
