The battle for power in Punjab has reached New Delhi with deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal charging the main Opposition Congress with encouraging secessionist forces and Congress leader and former Punjab CM Capt. Amarinder Singh hitting back asking why the junior Badal was shying away from holding a press conference in Chandigarh. Capt. Singh on Saturday also predicted a “Waterloo” for the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) if the Punjab Assembly elections are held .

Mr Badal and Capt. Singh traded charges at separate press meets here on Saturday. The Akali leader alleged that Congress leaders shared the stage with “radical and separatist elements” at a recent gathering in Amritsar where the demand for Khalistan was raked up. Mr Badal also met President Pranab Mukherjee and demanded that action should be taken and the Congress “derecognised” as it was “anti-national”.
