Baby sold in Uttar Pradesh for Rs 1.5 lakh to pay debts

A couple in Kanpur district were arrested for selling their five-month-old baby to a businessman from Jalaun district to pay off their debts. The businessman was also arrested.

A couple in Kanpur district were arrested for selling their five-month-old baby to a businessman from Jalaun district to pay off their debts. The businessman was also arrested.

Khalid and Saeeda, residents of Babu Purva Colony, lodged a police complaint and told Kanpur SSP Shalabh Mathur that their baby had been abducted from outside their house.

The couple have five children, and the toddler was the youngest.

During investigations, the police found that the couple had sold the baby for Rs 1.5 lakh to businessman Haroon.

The police recovered Rs 60,000 cash from Khalid’s house. Saeeda told the police that they were in urgent need of money to pay their debts and were forced to sell their child. The matter is under investigation.
