Senior Samajwadi Party leader and UP minister Mohd Azam Khan stirred a fresh controversy on Saturday when he claimed that underworld don Dawood Ibrahim was present during the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Lahore last year.

Mr Khan claimed that he had proof of Dawood Ibrahim’s presence at the meeting. “I will give the proof and let Mr Narendra Modi deny it,” he said in Ghazipur where he had gone to attend a private function.

Talking to reporters, the UP minister said that the meeting between the two Prime Ministers and the underworld don took place in a closed room.

“When Mr Modi met the Pakistan Prime Minister’s mother, two Indian industrialists were also present,” he said. He further said that mangoes from Malihabad and Pashmina shawls were gifted to Mr Sharif, apart from “seekh kebebs” packed in a silver box. “We send kebabs to Pakistan and in our country, Muslims are being killed for eating meat,” he stated.

It may be recalled that on December 25 last year, Prime Minister Modi had made an unscheduled stopover in Lahore to wish Mr Nawaz Sharif on his birthday.
