The new national executive, announced by SP MP Ram Gopal Yadav has 45 members, including president Mulayam Singh Yadav. Kironmoy Nanda has been appointed the vice-president and its six national general secretaries include Azam Khan, Ram Gopal Yadav, Ravi P. Varma, Naresh Agarwal, Vishambhar Nishad and Surendra Nagar.
There are five secretaries and Sanjay Seth, a builder, is the treasurer. The 31-member national executive includes Amar Singh, Beni Varma, Shivpal Singh Yadav, Ahmad Hasan, Jaya Bachchan, Balram Yadav, Ambica Chaudhary, Om Prakash Singh and Neeraj Shekhar, among others.
Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav will be an ex-officio member of the national executive since he is also the state president of the Samajwadi Party. The new national executive clearly bears the stamp of Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav and all senior leaders have been included in it while the young leaders have been kept out.
