New Delhi: Delhi Metro’s 9.7 km Lajpat Nagar-Mayur Vihar Pocket 1 corridor of the Pink Line is all set to be opened for the public on Monday.

The stretch, which has five stations — three underground and two elevated, will be inaugurated by Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia and Union minister of housing and urban affairs Hardeep Singh Puri on Monday at 11 am. It will be opened for the public the same day from 4 pm.

The new segment is part of the 59-km-long Pink Line, which spans from Majlis Park to Shiv Vihar. It is part of the Phase-III of the DMRC (Delhi Metro Rail Corporation) network.

The five stations, in the line that will cross Yamuna, are Lajpat Nagar, Vinobapuri, Ashram, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Mayur Vihar Phase-I, and Mayur Vihar Pocket-1. Mayur Vihar Phase-I and Mayur Vihar Pocket-1 are elevated stations. This would be the last section of the longest Pink Line of the Metro network, with other sections connecting Majlis Park to Lajpat Nagar and Trilok Puri to Shiv Vihar having opened in three phases over the last one year.

The 59 km line will encircle most part of the busy Ring Road and will cover almost the entire road connecting localities as disparately situated as Shalimar Bagh, Anand Vihar, and Sarojini Nagar in North, East, and South of Delhi respectively. The DMRC started its first ever operation in 2002 and currently its network spans 317 km with 231 stations. Former Prime Minister late Atal Behari Vajpayee had inaugurated DMRC’s first-ever corridor on December 24, 2002.
