Bhopal: An adult tiger was on Saturday found dead in the core area of Bandhavgarh National Park under Shahdol district in Madhya Pradesh.

Carcass of the big cat was spotted in Devahra village under Jaisinghn-agar police limits inside the park by the local villagers, who latter tipped off the incident to the forest officials.

“A tiger was found dead inside the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve. Prima facie, it appears it was a case of poaching. A team of foresters led by local forest ranger has rushed to the spot to probe the matter,” a park official told this newspaper unwilling to be quoted.

Preliminary reports suggested that the tiger might have been electrocuted by the poachers, he said, adding that the exact cause of death could be ascertained after post-mortem of the body. This was fifth killing of tiger in the national park in last three months.
