Srinagar: A team of Union home ministry on Monday reached here for a high-level review of security situation in Kashmir Valley which has witnessed escalation in violence in past few weeks.

In one of the fierce gun battles reported from frontier Kupwara district five security personnel and an equal number of militants among a fresh batch of infiltrators were killed last week. Also the trend of Valley’s educated youth turning to gun goes unabated over which the security forces officials have publicly voiced their serious concern.

The MHA team headed by home secretary Rajiv Gauba will during its two-day visit hold a series of meetings with top State government functionaries and the officials of various security forces in twin capitals Srinagar and Jammu to review overall security situation, law and order and Prime Minister’s development package (PMDP), the official sources here said. They added that the situation along the line of control (LoC) and international border (IB) with Pakistan which have witnessed  cross-border firing.
