BSF, BGB to exchange more trans-border crime info, build projects in own areas

Kolkata: The Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have decided to enhance the exchange of information and cooperation more in all fields to fight trans-border crimes between the two neighbouring countries.

They also resolved to undertake construction of developmental projects in their respective border areas. These decisions were taken at a four-day BSF-BGB border co-ordination conference which concluded in Kolkata on Friday.

The meeting, aimed to improve mutual cooperation and border management between the two sides, was attended by BSF Inspector Generals of South Bengal, North Bengal and Guwahati Frontiers and BGB regional commanders of North-West Region at Rangpur and South West Region at Jessore.

The BSF delegation was led by its South Bengal Frontier IG Anurag Garg. The BGB delegation was headed by Brigadier General Omar Sadi who is South West regional commander at Jessore

BSF South Bengal Frontier stated, "Both the border guarding forces decided to further enhance sharing of information and cooperation in all fields to ensure bringing an effective border management system to fight the menace of trans-border crimes, smuggling of drugs etc. While appreciating efforts made by each other that resulted in decline in trans-border crime, both sides agreed to pursue the construction of developmental projects in the respective border areas. Both the border guarding forces agreed that the confidence building measures have improved the understanding between both the forces."

At the conference, anti-smuggling operations, simultaneous coordinated patrolling (SCP),  breach of border fence, measures to check violation of the sanctity of the international boundary, and illegal cross border movement were discussed, according to the BSF.

Besides various pending issues related to infrastructure and developmental works in border areas were also discussed. Both sides appreciated various activities being conducted under the coordinated border management plan that includes SCP, sharing of intelligence, identification of vulnerable areas and increased frequency of meetings at all levels.
