Srinagar: Tasaduq Hussain Mufti, the younger brother of chief minister Mehbooba Mufti, is being inducted into the Jammu and Kashmir council of ministers soon, sources in the ruling PDP-BJP coalition said.

An American Film Institute graduate, 46-year-old Mufti who has lensed Bollywood blockbusters like Omkara and Kaminey was nominated as member of the J&K Legislative Council against an available seat by governor N.N. Vohra on Friday to pave the way for his appointment as a minister. Prior to his induction into the council of minister, Tasaduq will take oath as member of Legislative Council on December 25, sources said.

Earlier this week, Muftis’ maternal uncle Syed Farooq Andrabi resigned as minister of state for Hajj and Auquaf to open the way for his nephew’s appointment. As per the terms of alliance, the PDP has 13 members, including the chief minister, and the BJP 11 ministers, including deputy chief minister in the council of ministers.

Tasaduq is likely to be made minister for tourism, the portfolio presently being held by the chief minister, sources said. This may necessitate minor reshuffle in the portfolios of few ministers from the PDP’s quota. Tasaduq formally joined the ruling PDP on January 7 this year to “bring peace and prosperity to the state.”
