Bhopal: Overwhelmed by grief over the death of her seven-year-old son, a woman walked 10 kilometre with his dead body and then jumped before a running train to end her life.

The heartrending incident took place on the outskirts of Indore city early on Saturday morning.

According to eyewitnesses, the deceased mother, Bharti (30), flung herself before a running train after she put the body of her dead son on the ground.

“She left the body alongside the railway track before throwing herself in front of the running train. We were not only shocked but also moved by the gory sight,” police said, quoting an eyewitness.

According to police, Bharti took her son, a thalassaemia patient, to a local hospital in Indore late on Friday night when his condition deteriorated.

Bharati’s husband, Viswanath Patel, who works in a local oil mill, arranged a vehicle to take them to the hospital before going to his night shift. Later, Mr Patel received a call from his wife that the condition of their son was deteriorating rapidly. Bharti called him again a few minutes later to inform him about the death of their child and then she disconnected the call.

Subsequently, Bharati walked to the Kesar Bagh level crossing, which is 10 kilometre away from the hospital, carrying her son’s body and jumped before the running train. Bharati died on the spot, investigating officer S Sharma said.
