India gives Beijing all evidence on JeM chief

China has till now blocked Azhar’s designation by the UN as a “global terrorist”. India is hopeful China will soon drop its opposition.

New Delhi: India said Monday it shared with China all evidence on the terror activities of Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar. There are indications this was the major issue of discussion during foreign secretary Vijay Gokhale ongoing talks in Beijing. China has till now blocked Azhar’s designation by the UN as a “global terrorist”. India is hopeful China will soon drop its opposition.

Mr Gokhale, in Beijing Monday, held consultations with China’s executive vice-foreign minister Le Yucheng and vice-foreign minister Kong Xuanyou. He also met Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi. It is learnt that Mr Gokhale raised the Azhar issue with the Chinese minister.
