Patna: Jan Adhikar Morcha (JAP) chief Pappu Yadav was placed under house arrest on Tues-day for extending support to a state-wide bandh called by the left parties on December 19 against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizenship (NRC).

Talking to reporters at his residence, he said that officials had slapped him with a notice and asked him not to venture out of his house. “They can place me under house arrest but cannot suppress the voice of those who are trying to save the Constitution. It seems that the entire country has been placed under house arrest,” said Mr Yadav, who sat on a dharna at his residence.

Sources said that police had initiated the action against Mr  Yadav on the basis of an input that suggested he along with his supporters could create disturbances during the protest in Patna and other places of Bihar.

The bandh has been called by left parties with support from Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindust-ani Awam Morcha (HAM), SFI, NSUI and other Opposition parties.

Mr Yadav who has been actively holding protests in Patna aga-inst the CAA had also announced his participation in the bandh.
