Lucknow: The Institute of Medical Sciences in the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has developed an application called “Har Har Mahadev” that blocks unwanted sites, especially pornographic ones.

Once downloaded and registered, the app will play devotional songs whenever the user attempts to open any “inappropriate” site.

Vijay Nath Misra of the neurology department who designed the app told reporters, “We have developed the website blocker and Internet filtering services, so one can surf safely without any fear of opening adult or objectionable sites.”

Dr Misra said that it took him and his team about six months to develop the app that can also do away with misinformation on the Internet.

The Web is designed to block about 3,800 websites related to pornographic and violent content. This is available on both mobile phones and computers.

The name of the app has apparently been inspired by Lord Shiva who is known to destroy evil.

Dr Misra said that this was his attempt to cure those suffering from porn addiction. “We hope the devotional songs that will play on the app will bring some level of change in the user. We will soon be adding devotional songs from other religions too,” he added.

The doctor added that he planned to redirect users to inspirational speeches from Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela and Rabindranath Tagore as well.

The app can also be used to block dangerous games like Blue Whale that has claimed several lives.
