Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh poll officer on Thursday banned Congress advertisements titled “chowkidar chor hai” in the state.

The BJP on Tuesday urged the Election Commission to ban Congress chief Rahul Gandhi from campaigning and impose the “heaviest penalty” on him.  The saffron party said Gandhi had levelled false allegations against PM Modi on the Rafale deal.

The BJP delegation comprising Union ministers Ravi Shankar Prasad and Hardeep Singh Puri among others met Chief Election Commissioner with the complaint. They demanded action against Gandhi for repeatedly using the term “chowkidar chor hai” and making false attributions to the Supreme Court.

The court had ordered Gandhi to give an explanation by April 22 for “incorrectly” attributing his ‘chowkidar Narendra Modi chor hai’ comment to SC’s verdict in Rafale case. The top court said it would consider a criminal contempt petition filed against the Opposition leader.
