Husbands alive but 22 women avail widows’ pension in UP

Sandeep Kumar informed the concerned officials but he now claims that he is receiving threats for taking up the matter with the authorities.

The matter came to light after one Sandeep Kumar in Batsganj village checked his wife Priyanka’s bank account and discovered that she had been receiving widows’ pension.

Lucknow: Twenty two women, all married with surviving husbands, have been found to be receiving the widows’ pension in Sitapur district in Uttar Pradesh.

The matter came to light after one Sandeep Kumar in Batsganj village checked his wife Priyanka’s bank account and discovered that she had been receiving widows’ pension. On further queries, he found that his mother-in-law and sister-in-law were receiving the pension even though their husbands were alive.

Sandeep was married to Priyanka barely eight months ago.Later, it was found that 22 married women in the same village had been availing the widows’ pension.

Sandeep Kumar informed the concerned officials but he now claims that he is receiving threats for taking up the matter with the authorities.

Ashwini Kumar, district probation officer, when contacted, said that the matter was being investigated and one employee had already been terminated for this scam.
