Srinagar: Kashmiri separatist leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Jammu & Kashmir CM Mehbooba Mufti have welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s assertion that bullets and abuses will not help in resolving problems in the state.

“Na goli se, na gaali se, Kashmir ki samasya suljhe gi gale lagaane se (Kashmir problem will not be solved by bullets or abuses, but only by embracing the people),” the PM said in his Independence Day speech at Red Fort, Delhi on Tuesday.

Welcoming it, Muslim cleric and chairperson of his faction of separatist Hurriyat Conference alliance, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, tweeted “Welcome. @narendramodi also believes goli and gali will not help resolve Kashmir. If insaniyat (humanity) and insaaf (justice) replace them, resolution can become a reality.”

CM Mehbooba Mufti said she had, all along, believed that dialogue and peaceful means only can help in resolving issues as the futility of violence has been established all around.
