A heavy deployment of police has been made in the district on the eve of Independence Day and local intelligence agencies are on high alert.

Lucknow: The district administration in Kasganj has denied permission for taking out Tiranga Yatra on Independence Day. Prohibitory orders have also been clamped in the district.

The decision comes in the wake of widespread violence in Kasganj during a Tiranga Yatra on January 26 earlier this year in which a youth Chandan Gupta was killed.

Permission for taking out a Tiranga Yatra had been sought by three right-wing organizations, affiliated to the BJP.

“We held a high level meeting and it was decided that only traditional programmes will be held on Independence Day. There will be no Tiranga Yatra since it is not a part of tradition. Section 144 has also been imposed to check any congregations in the district”, Commissioner Ajaydeep Singh told reporters on Monday night.

Meanwhile, one Govind Parashar who claims to head the Rashtriya Bajrang Dal released a video statement claiming that Tiranga Yatras would be taken out on Independence Day in all Muslim dominated areas across the state. He said that the state government would not be able to stop these yatras. A case has been filed against him in Agra on the basis of the statement.
