College girl gangraped in Patna

Sources said that the girl was called by her friend to a house, where she was threatened and raped by four youth.

The victim in her statement to the police, said that the accused also threatened to release the video of the act on the internet if she refused their demands.

Patna: Amid public outrage over rising crime against women in Bihar, a college student was allegedly gang-raped in Patna by four youth.

The incident had occurred earlier this week but came to light on Friday, when students created ruckus on the streets of Patna demanding justice for the victim.

Sources said that the girl was called by her friend to a house, where she was threatened and raped by four youth. The victim in her statement to the police, said that the accused also threatened to release the video of the act on the internet if she refused their demands.

However, the police said that two accused in the case have surrendered in the court and hunt is on to arrest others, who went into hiding after the incident was reported by the victim.

“Two accused, including the victim’s friend has surrendered in the court. We have obtained a warrant of arrest for two others, who have been absconding after the incident was reported. We are also waiting for the medical report of the victim”, ASP law and order Swarn Prabhat told reporters in Patna on Friday.

Chief minister Nitish Kumar and the state government has been facing criticism for deteriorating law and order scenario and rising crime against women in Bihar. As per an assessment, more than 1,165 cases of rape have been reported from across the state till October, this year. In Patna alone, 85 cases of rapes were registered this year, which is highest in the state.

“The police will not spare anyone no matter how important the person is. In this case, also police officials have been asked to conduct raids and nab all the accused, who have been evading arrest”, officer-in-charge of the women police station, Aarti Jaiswal said.

Sources said that the Opposition parties, especially the RJD youth wing is likely to extend its support to the protest against rising crime against women in the state. A section in the party said that the RJD youth wing is also planning to join the student’s agitation on the issue of Patna gang-rape incident.
