New Delhi: With no direct air connectivity between Dhaka and Delhi after Jet Airways stopped flying, Bangladesh national airlines Biman has re-established its direct Dhaka-Delhi-Dhaka flight after a gap of nearly five years. The first flight after 5 years came on Monday bringing in 150 passengers from Dhaka and returning with 87 passengers.

As the Biman flight landed at the IGI Airport, it was greeted by an arch of water canon.

Bangladesh high commissioner to India Syed Muazzem Ali received the incoming passengers and wished bon voyage to the departing ones at Terminal 3 of the airport.

The Dhaka-Delhi route was for the last five year largely handled by Jet Airways. In between, Air India too had experimented a few months back, but it stopped after a couple of months. However, after Jet Airways stopped, given the importance of connectivity between India and Bangladesh due to their close ties, Biman came in to fill the gap.

A large number of Indian and Bangladesh officials, business persons, students and tourists use this route.

Officials in the Bangladesh high commission said that Biman will be initially flying three days a week and later this will be scaled up to four or five days a week.
