Bhopal: A 48-year-old Covid-19 patient jumped off the second floor of a government-run hospital in Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh and died, officials said on Saturday.

According to the dean of the hospital Dr P K Kasal, the patient jumped off the second floor of the super-specialty wing of the hospital on Friday and died.

The patient was admitted in the hospital last week after he tested positive for coronavirus.

He was also suffering from mental disorder and was given psychiatry treatment, the dean said.

The deceased hailed from the neighbouring district of Katni.

This was the second such incident in the hospital in the last one month.

On September 4, a 64-year-old Covid-19 patient jumped to death from the second floor of the hospital.

As of Saturday, Madhya Pradesh has reported 145245 coronavirus positive cases and 2599 deaths.

The state has reported 1616 fresh coronavirus positive cases and 25 deaths in the last 24 hours.

Significantly, 45 out of the 52 districts in the state have witnessed a decline in the number of Covid-19 active patients in the last fortnight.

This was because the number of people recovered during the period has outnumbered the total number of fresh cases reported.

While 31,649 people recovered in the past 15 days between September 25 and October 9, only 26,041 new cases were reported during the period.
