Bhopal: Six people including three policemen were injured as anti-quota stir turned violent in district headquarters town of Sidhi in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday.

Police lobbed tear gas shells and later resorted to a charge on a group of agitating people who took out a rally in Sidhi to protest reservation system in government services. Six people including three police men were injured in the incident.

“Permission was not taken to take out the rally by some people. Police had lobbed tear gas shells and then had to resort to lathi charge when the demonstrators started pelting stones at them. Three police men were injured in the incident”, inspector general of police (intelligence) Makrand Deouskar told reporters here.

However, barring the stray incident, the anti-quota stir in the state has remained peaceful, he said.

Security arrangements were beefed up in sensitive areas in the state.
