Militants abduct Kashmiri Armyman

The police with other security forces has launched a massive operation to secure his release.

The police said that Muhammad Yaseen Bhat, a soldier of the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry unit was on leave at home in Qazipora village of Budgam’s Chadoora area when kidnapped by masked gunmen. 

Srinagar: An off-duty Army jawan was kidnapped at gunpoint by suspected militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s central district of Budgam late Friday evening.

The police said that Muhammad Yaseen Bhat, a soldier of the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry unit was on leave at home in Qazipora village of Budgam’s Chadoora area when kidnapped by masked gunmen.

“The gunmen barged into his house and forcibly took him along. The police with other security forces has launched a massive operation to secure his release,” said a senior police official.

This abduction has brought back memories of 22-year-old Army officer with the Rajputana Rifles of the Indian Army, Lieutenant Ummer Fayaz, who was abducted and killed in 2017 by militants after he had gone to attend a relative’s wedding in Shopian district of Kashmir.
