Bhopal: A day after the Congress alleged presence of 60 lakh bogus voters in Madhya Pradesh, the Election Commission (EC) on Monday began a probe into it.

An eight-member-team of the EC, which landed here on Monday morning, launched a “thorough” scrutiny of electoral rolls in four Assembly constituencies from where complaints of inclusion of fake voters have been received.

“The EC teams have been directed to scrutinise electoral lists booth-wise in the four Assembly constituencies from where complaints of inclusion of bogus voters have been received,” a senior officer in the chief electoral officer’s office here told this newspaper on condition of anonymity.

The probe teams have been asked to provide updates of progress in the investigation daily to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) O.P. Rawat, the poll officer disclosed.

The probe teams are scheduled to submit their final report to the CEC on June 7, sources said. The electoral rolls of these constituencies would be revised to remove the bogus voters, if found in the investigation.
