Indian and Pakistan troops exchange fire at LoC

In the evening, the cross-LoC shelling and firing started also in Shahpur area of Poonch district.

No casualties were reported on the Indian side in the Pakistani firing and shelling which started around 3 am and stopped at 6.30 am, the Army and police sources said.

Srinagar: Breaking a two-day lull, the Indian and Pakistan armies on Monday again exchanged fire at a few places along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Jammu and Poonch districts.

A defence spokesman in winter capital Jammu said that the Pakistani troops resorted to firing from mortar guns and small arms targeting Indian forwards positions and civilian areas in Akhnoor sector of Jammu on Monday morning.

The Indian Army, he said, retaliated “strongly and effectively” to the “ceasefire violation”. No casualties were reported on the Indian side in the Pakistani firing and shelling which started around 3 am and stopped at 6.30 am, the Army and police sources said.

In the evening, the cross-LoC shelling and firing started also in Shahpur area of Poonch district. “There also our troops have responded strongly,” the defence spokesman said.
