The six seats in West Bengal where no mutual contest has been announ-ced are Murshidabad, Raiganj, Baharampur, Jangipur, Maldaha Dakshin and Maldaha Uttar.

New Delhi: The CPI(M) on Monday proposed “no mutual contest” for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections on six seats currently held by the Congress and the Left Front in West Ben-gal, indicating its willingness for an understanding between the two political blocks in the state to consolidate anti-BJP votes. The formula may also be extended to Odisha.

The six seats in West Bengal where no mutual contest has been announ-ced are Murshidabad, Raiganj, Baharampur, Jangipur, Maldaha Dakshin and Maldaha Uttar. Out of these, Murshidabad and Raiganj are currently with the CPI(M), the rest are with the Congress.  

The proposal comes in the backdrop of the Left party’s Kerala unit opposing any pact with the Congress.
