Lucknow: A man, accused of rape, attempted to rape the victim and her sister-in-law again when they refused to withdraw the complaint against him.

The incident took place in Tendura village in Banda district when the rape victim and her sister-in-law were working in the field. Shivram, who had raped one of the woman last year , approached them and tried to rape them at gunpoint. He asked the victim to withdraw her complaint against him.

The women managed to free themselves and ran back home. Santosh, the brother-in-law of the victim and husband of the other woman, met the Banda superintendent of police and lodged his complaint.

Santosh later told reporters that he belongs to a dalit family and the police were deliberately delaying action on his complaint. “The accused has not been arrested on the first complaint and he is now threatening the women in the family,” he said.

Circle officer Om Prakash said that a case of “eve-teasing” had been registered by Santosh last year and the final report had been submitted in the case. “Further action will be taken on the directives of the court,” the official said.
